Area Control Centers

The Liberty-STAR VCS helps air traffic controllers to communicate with easy to configure and use consoles

In air traffic control, an Area Control Center (ACC) is the facility responsible for controlling instrument-flight-rules aircraft flying in a particular volume of airspace at high altitudes between airport approaches and departures.

Air traffic controllers use radar to monitor the progress of flights and instruct aircraft pilots to perform course adjustments as needed to maintain separation from other aircraft. Pilots may also request altitude adjustments or course changes to avoid turbulence or adverse weather conditions.

Ergonomic design facilities operational efficiency

The Liberty-STAR push-button and touch-screen operator panels are ergonomically designed for maximum usability and operational efficiency. Push-button operator panels are expandable and include a variety of operator modules that allow for radio, intercom and interphone operation. With touch-screen consoles, the Graphical User Interface (GUI) can be accessed by touching the screen or using a mouse, and can be configured to suit the preferences of the user.

The functionality of each position can be the same or different. More importantly, for ACCs in which the communication requirements change on a daily basis, operator panels can easily be changed to different configurations as required.

Designed for high capacity needs of even the largest centers

The Liberty-STAR VCS can support up to several hundred positions. In addition to the requisite multiple main and standby radio channels, the Liberty-STAR VCS also offers a comprehensive set of ground-to-ground communications capabilities, including:

  • CO line
